One Westminster befriender scoops carer award

More than 100 people attended last night’s annual Westminster Care Awards 2019 to reward people who look after someone with a long-term illness or disability.  There were nine categories and we are pleased to report that a befriender from our Befriending Plus project that seeks to alleviate isolation and loneliness among older people was awarded the award for Befriender, Voluntary or Community carer.

Conor Geraghty who has been part of our befriending project since early 2017 won the award for the outstanding support he has given to a 90-year-old Westminster resident. Befriending coordinator Natalie Castro says: “Conor has excellent people skills which have clearly helped him to form a special bond with his befriendee. He visits unfailingly every week and even remained in regular contact when his job seconded him to New York last year for six months. This has helped the older person’s self-confidence so much and made him feel part of his local community again.”

If you would like to befriend an older person please email Natalie Castro.
