Our big day out at the zoo
For this year’s summer outing for our Learning Disabilities Befriending and Mentoring project, we decided to combine a narrow boat trip on the Regent’s Canal with a visit to ZSL London Zoo. With project leader Joel Hylton in charge, around 15 project members and volunteers took to the water at Little Venice last week and enjoyed a boat trip up through narrow waterways right into Regent’s Park and the Zoo.
Once we'd disembarked, it was on to see all manner of wildlife great and small, including the Zoo’s newest exhibit that transports visitors from the heart of London to India’s vibrant Sasan Gir, where they can get closer than ever before to mighty Asiatic lions. Of the other parts visited, the reptiles proved popular, as did the apes and butterflies, and everyone was truly besotted by the magnificent tigers. We learned that each tiger has a unique pattern of stripes!
Says Joel: “It really was the best day out. We had a wonderful time with lots of laughs and everyone did a great job looking after each other.”
