Youth VolEmploy Mentoring Scheme: ‘How to network confidently’ event
Networking can be daunting for many of us, but especially so for young people. With this very much in mind, One Westminster’s Youth VolEmploy Mentoring Scheme invited Marianna Lucia Marquez and Emma Zangs from MetaSpeech who specialise in coaching entrepreneurs on public speaking to fifteen mentors and mentees from the Mentoring project.
The participants met up on Thursday, 8 October at All Saints House in Soho, London to learn about networking techniques, over snacks and drinks.
The feedback from the group was very positive, with almost all of them satisfied with the session, and some 62% saying they would definitely use the tips they’d been taught in future networking opportunities.
“It was great to learn how to compose ourselves in a networking event and how to follow up afterwards. The session definitely made me feel a bit more confident!”, said Tissomah, who is 22 years old and a mentee.
"It was lovely to see some familiar faces who I met at the last networking event and meet some new volunteers and young people as well. Learning how to network through being aware of your body language has been helpful.” said Mairi, a mentor who is employed by PwC.
One Westminster thanks the Big Lottery Fund for supporting the Youth VolEmploy Mentoring Scheme. The next event will be ‘Creating a successful personalised brand’ on Wednesday, 4 November between 6 and 7pm. If you would like to join us, please RSVP here.
