Volunteering in Westminster

Volunteering is donating your time to help good causes and people.  Some people volunteer to learn a new skill or to meet new people, others want to get work experience or a reference, and some simply want to build their confidence and have fun.

How to volunteer

How to volunteer

Westminster has a brand new volunteering database, Team Westminster, that’s been specially designed to make it easy for you to volunteer in your community. Hundreds of opportunities have been posted on it by local charities and voluntary groups so you can choose both what you want to do and how much time you want to give. There are many ways to volunteer with Team Westminster, and you will be sure to find something that suits your interests.

If you want to volunteer in Westminster, simply visit the Team Westminster website, sign up with your details and then search online for the right role for you.

What people said about our recent volunteers' fair

The Team Westminster/One Westminster Volunteers' Fair on 22 September attracted people from far and wide. For a time the Stowe Centre hall was packed with both would-be volunteers and organisations showcasing their volunteering opportunities. Here's what some of the attendees said about the afternoon:

I am sure that the Volunteers' Fair will help me find the right path I need. I've signed up with two organisations already."

Josh Wynn, prospective volunteer

Volunteer fairs are a great way for us to connect with people who might not otherwise have heard about our work."

Ben Carter, Volunteering Project Worker for The Passage - a homeless charity

The Volunteers' Fair is giving me the chance to find a volunteering role that would allow me to gain confidence to start work again."

I like to volunteer as it provides me with opportunities to meet many people, to learn new skills and to help others overcome the challenges that face them.”

Gwyneth Williams, 71 years old

I have been volunteering with One Westminster for around five months now and feel I have benefitted a great deal from it.  It has helped me to build my confidence and self-esteem and has also given me the chance to meet new people and make new friends.  I have been out of work for years while raising my children so volunteering has given me the skills and the experience I need for when I do get a paid job in the future.  At the same time I am helping the community which I really enjoy too.”
