Meet the Funder - Westminster Climate Fund

Alex Downes will outline the funding guidelines for this new funding opportunity. This online session will consist of a presentation from the funder, followed by a Q&A.

The Westminster Climate Fund is a £6 million grant programme designed to support organisations across the city to take meaningful action on climate change. The fund supports projects that reduce carbon emissions, increase energy efficiency, and promote greener, more resilient communities - all in line with Westminster’s goal to become a net zero city by 2040.

There are four funding categories. These are the ones most relevant for VCSEs:

  • Greener Living – Small grants (around £20,000) for community-led environmental action. Ideal for schools, community organisations, neighbourhood projects, and organisations supporting marginalised communities.
  • Community Energy and Retrofit – Funding for community groups managing their own buildings or delivering local energy resilience projects. Supports retrofitting, energy-saving improvements, and encouraging community energy ownership.
  • Feasibility – Funding for early-stage work (e.g. surveys or business cases) to help plan larger carbon-saving projects.
