Employee Volunteering

Time & Talents is the social enterprise arm of One Westminster that runs the employee volunteering programme in Westminster.

Established in 1996, Time & Talents has built strong ties with One Westminster's extensive network of more than 100 local community organisations that make a huge difference to the lives of disadvantaged people living in the borough.

Westminster is a diverse borough, and the needs of its residents change frequently. According to the 2019 English Indices of Deprivation, parts of the borough are among the most deprived areas in the country.

Since the pandemic, charities have been facing unprecedented demand for their services. With the current cost of living crisis, an increasing number of Westminster households are at risk of falling into deprivation. Rising inflation and shrinking public funding means that charities are struggling to deliver services.

Corporate involvement is now needed more than ever to ensure additional support to the most vulnerable communities in the borough.

Our Programme

Take your organisation's corporate social responsibility (CSR) to the next level with employee volunteering activities.

We facilitate volunteer placements in community projects that match your social value offering and CSR objectives with the needs in the community.

We can organise either one-off or ongoing volunteering programmes for teams and individuals. Typical events include:

  • Team away-days that are great for team building
  • Bespoke programme of activities for a week, month, or quarterly events
  • Charity hackathons that can involve 100+ employees at conferences/company away days

If you prefer to offer support remotely, just a few hours of your employees' time can provide crucial assistance to local projects, for example, training charity staff, helping with media/marketing, web/IT and financial accounts, joining the board of trustees, taking up advisory roles, or setting up fundraising campaigns.

Projects & Impact

Time & Talents has a large range of projects to choose from including:

Supporting charities with manual tasks, such as painting and decorating, cleaning and clearing, or gardening and environmental regeneration, improves communities where there is limited capacity and resource; an active, teambuilding approach to volunteering.

Skills Share

Skills Share

Whether volunteering as an individual or in a team, employees use skills developed through their careers to effect change in the community. They can provide key support for charity staff as peer mentors, trainers and trustees. Volunteers also work with disadvantaged community members on issues such as unemployment and literacy.

Donations & Giving

We can also help your business identify charity projects that would benefit from financial donations and other in-kind support, such as project funding, events sponsorship, donations, and pro-bono office refurbishment. You can also volunteer your time and fundraise for local charities via our Local Giving page, or email Time and Talents for full support in setting  up a fundraiser.

At Time & Talents we are proud of our record in the Westminster community. All of our projects are set up and managed by us from start to finish, and deliver consistently high standards of support to those in need.

Volunteering has been proven to encourage:

Staff development Volunteering offers employees the opportunity to try something new, to develop new skills, and to practice negotiating and leadership.

Staff engagement Volunteering offers opportunities for colleagues to relate to one another outside the work environment, with team building activities that improve staff relationships and enhance creativity and collaboration.

Staff wellbeing Giving something back makes people feel part of something bigger and raises staff morale. Furthermore, recognition for high quality and high impact volunteering gives employees a strong sense of fulfilment that can help retain talent.

The Time & Talents employee volunteering programme offers support to all responsible businesses that want to make a difference in Westminster. Our service includes:

Free consultation to identify potential projects for employee engagement that match your company's corporate social responsibility goals or social value commitments. We compile a list of volunteering opportunities every two months, and we can help find projects that match your staff availability and preferences.

Full brokerage service for CSR events and volunteer days, so we take care of all charities’ liaisons and logistics. Our full service includes events planning, full coordination of activities and volunteer teams on the day, provision of materials/equipment, photography, collection of feedback from participants and beneficiaries, and impact report

There's a small fee for full brokerage service of volunteer days and bespoke CSR events, but we keep costs reasonable as we are a charity and the funds raised from this service are put straight back into the local community.

  • Our service fee is charged according to the type of programme companies sign up for
  • One-off volunteering days can be organised on a pay-as-you-go basis.
  • The yearly membership offers ongoing support for volunteering in multiple activities throughout the year.

Whatever size your organisation is, we can work with you to develop a volunteering programme that suits your business objectives and provides remarkable experiences and outcomes for everyone.

Here’s what some of the charities, companies and people directly benefitting from our projects said about our service:

A big thank you for all your support in helping us to get volunteers for our Christmas Project. A difficult situation arose when volunteers that had agreed to attend dropped out due to illness/COVID-19. So your success in finding us volunteers at short notice was invaluable. The team from Ignite Logistics were one of our superstar volunteers!”

Sandy Parianem, Christmas Project Coordinator, Age UK Westminster

The Time & Talents team has been instrumental in connecting PIMCO with local charities and identifying engagement opportunities that have made a significant impact to the local community.”

I enjoyed the reading session and I have gained more confidence in my other lessons. My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone; my mentor would be Professor McGonagall because she likes cats."
